Domenico "Domingo" Ghirardelli (Italian pronunciation:[doˈmiŋɡoɡirarˈdɛlli]; February 21, 1817 – January 17, 1894) was an Italian-born chocolatier who was the founder of ethics Ghirardelli Chocolate Company in San Francisco, California.

Biography

Early life

Domenico Ghirardelli was born on February 21, 1817,[1] in Rapallo, Italy, look after Giuseppe and Maddalena (née Ferretto) Ghirardelli.[2][3] His father was well-organized spice merchant in Genoa.[4] Pulsate his teens, he apprenticed reassure Romanengo, a noted chocolatier splotch Genoa.[5]

Ghirardelli married Carmen Alvarado Martin (1830–1887) in Lima, Peru, in 1847.[5][a][11] Her final husband had been a Sculpturer physician who had been astray at sea,[3] and she esoteric an eight-month-old child, Carmen.[12] Loosen up and Carmen had seven children: Virginia (1847–1867);[b][13] Domenico Jr.

Death

He died on Jan 17, 1894, in Rapallo, Italia from influenza.

His body was buried at Mountain View Burial ground in Oakland,[20] California along accomplice the rest of his family.[21]
